ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Predators will open its 2005 training camp with a three-day long mini-camp at Thunder Field, adjacent to the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.
Head Coach Jay Gruden will welcome 36 players to the three-day camp, where he will install the teams offensive and defensive formations and concentrate on conditioning. The team will practice twice daily, at 8:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The team begins regular two-a-day practices in pads on Monday.
On Thursday, Gruden announced the signings of six players to replace players lost to the NFL in the past two weeks. The list included a pair of players from Georgia Tech, Jason Bostic and Kerry Watkins. Bostic is an NFL veteran who has spent the last three years with the Buffalo Bills; while Watkins was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference receiver who finished his career as the second-leading pass catcher in Georgia Tech history . Watkins ranks second in Tech history to former teammate Kelly Campbell in career receptions (171), receiving yards (2,680) and receiving touchdowns (22).
In addition the Predators picked up former New England patriot lineman Devonte Peterson, former Florida A&M lineman Leon Scott, arenafootball2 defensive specialist Jamie Hadley and lineman Deon White, and former University of Arkansas standout quarterback Romaro Miller.
Miller played two seasons in the Minnesota Vikings organization, before playing two seasons in the Canadian Football League with Toronto. Miller started three seasons for the Razorbacks (1998-01), throwing for 6,311 yards and 43 touchdowns. He was second team All-SEC as a senior.
Hadley played at Wilkes-Barre Scranton under former Predators assistant coach Les Moss, while White played for the Tennessee Valley Vipers.
In a related announcement, the Predators announced a trade shipping offensive specialist Fabian Davis to Nashville for future considerations.
The Predators open their 15th season of play in the Arena Football League on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the TD Waterhouse Centre against John Elways Colorado Crush. The season opener for both teams, the contest is scheduled to be televised on NBC (WESH-2 local). Predators season tickets, starting at just $54 may be purchased by calling 407-44-PREDS.
