Carroll Called Up to AHL

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League announced today that all-star goaltender Ken Carroll has been called up to the American Hockey League by the Edmonton Roadrunners, who are the primary affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. Carroll will join the team tomorrow after the Mudbugs host the Topeka Tarantulas tonight at 7:05 p.m. at the CenturyTel Center and will be with the Roadrunners for their upcoming road trip to San Antonio, Texas.
This call-up is not the first time Carroll has participated in hockey's 'AAA' level. In 2002, played one game for the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL and prior to the 2002-2003 season he attended training camp with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. The 5'10 180-pound netminder has also been in NHL camps with Minnesota and Vancouver during in his career.
This season the Oil City, Ontario native has continued to post impressive numbers while leading the Mudbugs to the top of the Northeast Division. He is currently 13-5-1 with a 2.39 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Carroll is the Mudbugs' all-time leader in wins by a goaltender with 88 and was named WPHL Goaltender of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2001. The 28-year-old is in his fourth season with Bossier-Shreveport and fifth as a professional. Carroll has also been named an all-star four times including three in the CHL/WPHL. On Wednesday, he represented the Mudbugs on the Northern Conference All-Star Team in the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game in Laredo, TX.
"This is an honor that is very well deserved for one of the best goaltenders at this level in any league," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Throughout Kenny's career, he has been very close to making that step up and I'm very happy for him with this opportunity to join an AHL team this weekend."
Tonight, the Mudbugs host the Topeka Tarantulas at 7:05 p.m. at the CenturyTel Center. All proceeds from the second intermission's "Chuck-a-Puck" contest will be donated to Asia Tsunami Relief Fund through Save the Children. For more information, please call 318-752-BUGS.
