Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons signed defenseman Kirill Tulupov to a standard player contract, Barons General Manager Bill Scott announced today.
Tulupov, a 6-4, 230-pounder from Moscow, Russia has played in 15 games with the Barons this season, recording four points and serving 38 penalty minutes. The 23-year old was originally a 3rd round draft choice (67th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to turning pro, he played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, splitting time between the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Victoriaville Tigres. In 172 games over three seasons, he recorded 64 points (15-49-64) and served 196 penalty minutes. His best season was the 06-07 campaign when he scored 28 points (8-20-88) in 54 games with Chicoutimi.
"Kirill is a young player who loves the game of hockey and playing in Oklahoma City," said Scott. "He set out to make this team from training camp and has shown us that he can be a valuable player to our team. We expect Kirill to elevate his game even further as the season progresses."
Saturday night is the Barons final home game before Christmas. The team is giving hats and hams in advance of the Christmas holiday. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a Barons Santa hat. Season Seat Holders need not wait in that line. ALL Season Seat Holders will receive the one-of-a-kind Santa hat.
Following the game, fans will have a chance to come down to the ice and shoot a puck into an empty net. Fans who are successful will win a certificate for a ham from Schwab Meat Co.
Saturday's home game against the Houston Aeros is a battle for first place in the Western Division. The Barons and Aeros have the two best records in the AHL and are separated by just one point. Tickets start at $10 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets. Faceoff is at 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center.
