Bridgeport Islanders News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. (Dec. 17, 2011) - Hershey netminder Dany Sabourin made 31 saves for his second shutout for the season as the Bears scored three power play goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night at Giant Center. Hershey improves to 16-7-3-2 with the victory. The Sound Tigers have lost five straight games and fall to 11-13-3-1.
Hershey's league-leading power play gave them the lead 8:56 into the game. Chris Bourque held the puck in at the right point of the Sound Tigers zone and fed a pass to Christian Hanson in the slot, who spun and fired a slap shot past Kevin Poulin for his fourth goal of the season as the Bears led 1-0. Hershey increased their lead to two just 1:58 later. Ty Wishart had a point shot blocked by Hershey's Boyd Kane, and Kane collected the puck and came in on a breakaway. The veteran forward beat Poulin for his ninth goal of the season, and Hershey led 2-0 after the first period.
The Sound Tigers were dominant in the second period, controlling the vast majority of the play in the Hershey zone. However, Sabourin was on top of his game and stopped every shot fired his way from the Sound Tigers who outshot Hershey 16-7 in the middle frame. The Bears would be the team which scored in the middle frame, converting on a turnover behind the Sound Tigers net as Jacob Micflikier found Matt Ford in front to deflect the centering feed to give Hershey a 3-0 lead with 2:39 left in the second period.
Ryan Potulny scored twice on the power play in the third period to cushion Hershey's lead. His first came at 4:04 of the final frame when he found himself with time in the slot and beat Poulin high on the glove side. Potulny's second goal came at the 9:01 mark of the third period also on the power play, deflecting Patrick McNeill's point shot past Poulin to round out the scoring. The Sound Tigers outshot Hershey 31-23 in the game.
The Sound Tigers look to earn a win in their final game of their road trip tomorrow afternoon when they face the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 4:05 p.m.
