Toledo, OH - Former Ohio State Buckeye Defenseman Shane Sims has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2014-15 season.

A native of East Amherst, New York, Sims has spent the past two seasons playing in Austria and Denmark. Last year he appeared in 47 games with HC Innsbruck in Austria and had a goal and nine assists. The former fifth round pick of the New York Islanders in 2006 posted eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 39 games with Aalborg in Denmark during the 2012-13 season. He made his pro debut on April 9, 2011 when he appeared in one game for the New York Islanders against Philadelphia. The 6'1", 196 pound defenseman played his first pro season in 2011-12 with 47 games played in the ECHL with Gwinnett (5G, 13A) and was a plus 5.

" Shane is an experienced defenseman whose strengths fit our style of play," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "He is good in transition and will help along our younger defensemen in their first taste of pro hockey."

Sims appeared in 152 games at the Ohio State University over four years in which he had 16 goals, 55 assists and 133 penalty minutes. The 26-year-old was the top scoring defenseman for the 2008-09 Buckeyes with a career best 24 points (7G, 17A) in 42 games. In two seasons at the USHL level, Sims appeared in 118 games with Des Moines collecting 51 points (20G, 31A) and 217 penalty minutes.
