Rivermen Trim Camp Roster to 22

PEORIA - Peoria Rivermen coach Jean-Guy Trudel has trimmed the training camp roster to 22 players as the final week of pre-season workouts begins.

Those cut on Sunday include forwards Shawn Bates, Dan Cecka, Joey Holka, Corrado Mancini and Matt Viola, and goaltenders Paul Dorsey and Matt Mahalak.

The Rivemen have given up the rights to defensemen Ben Oskroba and Nick Schneider, center Garrett Vermeersch and goaltender Kevin Carr after the four players earned spots on ECHL rosters. The Rivermen also gave up the rights to defenseman Riley Austin.

Continuing through the final week of Rivermen camp are defensemen Tyler Amburgey, Paul Arnott Mike MacIntyre, Frank Schumacher, Mike Slowikowski and Rich Zobak; forwards Dan Bremner, Alexandre Carrier, Max Cook, Josh Harris, Steve Morra, Dennis Sicard, Jordan Sims, Shawn Skelly, Jake Trask and Peoria native Alec Hagaman; and goaltenders Eric Levine and Kyle Rank.

Camp sessions continue from 10 a.m. till noon through Wednesday at Owens Center and are open to the public free of charge. The Rivermen open the season at home this Friday and Saturday on Bruce Saurs Hockey Weekend in Peoria featuring $8 tickets to celebrate Saurs' 88 years, $2 drafts and $2 hot dogs and magnetic schedules from Heritage Bank on both nights. Discounted tickets from groups of 10 or more are available, and groups of 10 or more on Friday will receive the same number of tickets for free for Saturday's game.

Single game tickets for Peoria's 33rd season of professional hockey are on sale weekdays at the Peoria Civic Center. Season ticket packages and group ticket options for the 2014-15 campaign are on sale now through the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W. Jefferson Street, or over the phone at (309) 676-1040.
