Carruth, Stingy Hogs Shut Down Wolves

November 23, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rosomont, Ill.- After backing up for ten games in Rockford goalie Mac Carruth made the most of his first start with the IceHogs in 2014-15. Carruth made 23 saves to earn his first career AHL shutout in a 3-0 blanking of the Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena.

The win game Rockford a three-game weekend sweep, including wins n back-to-back nights against the Milwaukee Admirals and Wolves, the two teams closest to the first place IceHogs.

Both teams were playing their third game in as many nights but it was the Wolves who came out of the gate strong. Carruth passed the early test and helped the IceHogs kill off three first period penalties.

Chicago came into the game with the best goal differential in the second period (26-11) of any team in any period in the AHL and the IceHogs were not only able to shut the door and hold the Wolves to just four shots, but also able to grab the game's first goal. Viktor Svedberg sent Brandon Mashinter racing into the Wolves zone on a breakaway. Mashinter was caught from behind but dished a perfect drop pass back for Garret Ross to fire to the back of the net to claim the 1-0 lead.

Ross and the IceHogs picked up right where they left off in the second period. Just after an IceHogs power play expired, Klas Dahlbeck ripped a shot that Matt Climie blocked but Ross was on the door step to hammer hom the rebound and extend the Hogs lead to 2-0 at 9:25.

Down 2-0, the Wolves pulled Climie for the extra attacker, but Mashinter knocked down a loose puck in the neutral zone and dumped his fourth goal of the season into the empty Wolves net at 19:08 .

Next Home Game: Wednesday, November 26 vs. Iowa Wild. Puck drop is 7 p.m. The IceHogs join forces with the Brovember Beard-A-Thon to try and set a World Record for the most mustached in one building after Rockford's matchup with Iowa. Along with the world record attempt, the IceHogs will be wearing specialty Brovember jerseys to commemorate men's health awareness.
