WHITE PLAINS, November 25, 2014 - The Westchester Knicks (2-3), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, topped the Los Angeles D-Fenders (1-5) 115-113 tonight in a thriller that came down to mere seconds.
Los Angeles struck first with a jump shot from center Jamario Moon, but Knicks center Ben Strong answered right away with a dunk to start off the game for Westchester. The Knicks held the lead for the majority of the first quarter ending with a two point lead, 23-21. A huge block from Moon on a shot attempt by birthday boy Kris Clark drew gasps towards the end of the half but Langston Galloway swiftly returned with a three-pointer to get the momentum back for the Knicks. Thanasis Antetokounmpo added eight points in the last two minutes, with the Knicks trailing just 59-58 going into half.
A monster third quarter led by Knicks affiliate player Orlando Sanchez with 10 points saw a total of 33 points scored collectively by Westchester. Westchester hit 100 points for the first time in franchise history after an Antetokounmpo lay-up with 7:52 to go in the fourth. A three-pointer from D-Fenders guard Jabari Brown with 13.3 seconds to go cut the Knicks' lead 113-112 but Westchester was able to hold onto the lead and ultimately secure the win.
Orlando Sanchez was on fire for Westchester with a team high 23 points along with nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and a steal. Thanasis Antetokounmpo continued his block party with six blocks on the night, along with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Local product Andre Barrett finished the night with 20 points, two assists, and a steal. Forward Darnell Jackson and guard Langston Galloway also added 18 points each.
Los Angeles guard Manny Harris had an impressive 30 points on the night along with five rebounds and two steals. Four other D-Fenders reached double digits including Jabari Brown with 21 points, Jamario Moon with 18 points, Roscoe Smith with 16 points, and Naadir Tharpe with 10 points.
The Westchester Knicks return to the Westchester County Center on Monday, Dec. 1 to face the Erie BayHawks at 7:00 p.m.
